Lou Bermingham has a B.A. in Fine Arts from San Jose State University (SJSU). He studied art at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Aix-en-Provence, France, during his university studies. Lou has also worked extensively in glass, designing and assembling architectural glass panels.
Lou was in the artist-in-residence program at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, a recognized and innovative artists' community. He has exhibited widely and shown his artwork in the USA, France, and Cairo, Egypt, as well as in New York City.
In the Bay Area, Lou has exhibited at the San Francisco galleries of Morrell Morrell and In the Distance. In the South Bay, he has exhibited his art through the Triton Museum in Santa Clara, the San Jose Museum of Art, the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, WORKS, the De Silva Gallery, Roche Bobois, Allegra, On Location, and the Citadel. In the nearby town of Los Gatos, Lou has shown his work through the Hathaway Collection, Fiona James Gallery, Virtual Gallery, and the Los Gatos Art Museum and in Santa Cruz, Lou has exhibited in juried shows through the Santa Cruz Art League. Lou was selected for the Merit award by Juror Rebecca Schapp, Director of the de Saisset Museum of Santa Clara University for the Santa Cruz Art League's "Relationship" show. He has also won awards through the Los Gatos Art Association.
Lou has an international clientele of collectors from New York to Paris to Tokyo to Sydney, Australia. In Paris, the accounting firm Cabinet Arca and Laurencin Architectural Associates are among his collectors, and Architect Louis Canizares, Director of Dessein de Ville-Architects/Urban Development of Toulouse and Bordeaux collects Lou's work.
Lou lived for a year in Cairo, Egypt, and has traveled throughout other parts of Africa. He has traveled through Israel, Europe, and Mexico and has spent time in Japan, Taiwan, and Korea furthering his studies in martial arts, particularly the Japanese martial art of aikido.
Throughout his travels, Lou has connected with different artists, educators, architects, and interested persons in his efforts to develop a world wide consciousness about the restorative power of Art. Lou's art studio is in the ghost town of Holy City, in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Northern California, close to Silicon Valley, yet set amongst the redwood trees and the forest and streams.
